Three Notrump Response - In addition to the standard agreement
showing 13 -15 High Card Points and a balanced hand with useful stoppers in
the side suits, some play conventional responses:
Convention |
Meaning |
Strong |
16 - 18 points and a
4-3-3-3 distribution |
Ingberman |
After opener's strong
reverse bid (second bid at the 2 level is in a higher ranking suit than
the rank of the first 1 level bid, as 1D - 1H; 2S), responder's
3N call promises a stopper in the fourth suit. |
Distributional |
13 - 15 points and implying
a singleton in an unspecified suit, when partner opened in a major suit. |
Long or Strong |
A forcing bid, where
responder holds either an extra long or strong hand, providing further
details in follow-up bids. |
Baby
Blackwood |
An Ace asking bid,
inquiring about opener's controls as a "mini Slam" bid |
Preemptive Game |
In lieu of using a direct
jump to 4 of opener's major suit to signoff in game, using 3NT to show a
hand with long trump and shortage in a side suit as well as minimal
defensive values. |
